The future production site of Columbi Salmon will be located across Ostend Science Park.
Flemish Minister of Environment Zuhal Demir has upheld the environmental permit in appeal for a salmon farm of the Norwegian company Columbi Salmon in the rear harbor of Oostende. This is the largest salmon farm in Europe, where 12,000 tons of Atlantic salmon will be produced annually. In contrast to the often-used cages in open sea, closed basin salmon farming offers certain advantages, according to researchers. In such a closed system, similar to a laboratory, the environment can be meticulously controlled.
