Ostend Science Park addresses marine aquaculture’s sustainability challenges

15/01/2020

Producing sustainable food has become more and more important due to a growing environmental awareness with the general public.

Ghent University’s current research therefore involves the development of a multispecies hatchery  to support aquaculture activities in Flanders. This includes the integration of different species, with a focus on local indigenous species in combination with new innovative culturing technologies  (e.g. RAS technologies) to significantly improve current aquaculture processes of the emerging aquaculture activities in Flanders (e.g. local mussel or oyster cultures).
