Ostend Science Park Hilde Crevits

50 percent Flemish support for the development of Ostend Science Park

Minister of Economy and Innovation Hilde Crevits (CD&V) grants 50 percent support to the development of the Ostend Science Park science park on the Plassendale industrial estate.

The science park is a collaboration between Ghent University, POM West Flanders and the Port of Ostend. The aim is to bring together companies and researchers active in the blue economy. In the long term, an employment of 3,000 people is expected.

Preparing a strong academic team to support the current and future Belgian offshore wind energy sector

Ghent University is proud to be the consortium leader of PhairywinD, a brand new offshore wind energy project. The main objective of this project is to prepare a community of nine PhD researchers from different Belgian knowledge institutes to tackle the current and future challenges of the Belgian offshore wind energy sector together.

The Belgian offshore wind zone is expanding, with 2.2 GW already installed and brand new zones being tendered. To ensure our place as frontrunners of wind energy in Europe and to stay on the forefront of technology trends and scientific advances, our industry needs a strong academic home base. And that is exactly what the PhairywinD project is all about.

Ostend Science Park welcomes Pieter Embo as Business Developer

New year, new colleague! Pieter Embo started as Business Developer for Bluebridge on January, 4th.

“I was based in Ostend for a long time during my time at the former Jetair, now TUI. So I have a great affinity with the region, to which I return after spending almost seven years in the far-away Peru. In Lima I started the local office for Flanders Investment & Trade, and in that role I have acquired a solid knowledge of ecosystems and gained very relevant experience with regard to attracting investments to Flanders, organising large and small events and conducting international business."
